The Great Unknowns - Presenting The Great Unknowns (Daemon)
|
| Record review by TC Krentz Well, don't say you haven't been warned. If there's any part of you that likes Lucinda Williams, Cowboy Junkies, or the Americana side of Sheryl Crow, you're going to develop instantaneous addiction to this incredible debut. The unique yet classic vocal talents of frontfrau Becky Warren married up with guitarist Michael Palmer, rhythm section Eggers & Guvench is a match made in a dusty alley somewhere in heaven. Great lyrics make the listen extra entertaining "A
man came round with a Bible/ said "you can't make it in this town
without leather for bones and a conscience of stone"/ The city
is you/ it can etherize anything it puts its mind to/ Welcome to Las
Vegas/ with our dreams 10 ft tall/ we leave here as shadows if we get
out at all". Those are lyrics written by a from-the-heart
artist. Perhaps the cover says it all - this is rock music for the open
road. |
